This was not damages to a person but to the ASA organization and it was three years ago. According to Rule 3 Section 7 NOTE: ‘The characteristics of any approved equipment can not be changed. There has been one court case to date about altering bats but this was a shaved and a painted bat: “Oklahoma City, OK–The Amateur Softball Association (“ASA”) is pleased to report that the U.S. Bat rolling simply speeds up the break in process with out any detection.

Rule 3 Equipment

“We have had several questions pertaining to bats and what is legally permissible to do to a bat. There have not been any landmark civil suit cases to date. There is nothing specific about rolling but some could see this as a way to say it is illegal.

Such excess pressure would include, but is not limited to, any compression, rolling, placing in a vice,

hitting a stationary object such as a pole, etc”. . This, I’m sure, has made a slight dent in altered bat use but without testing bats at the parks with a precise compression tester there is no end to bats going above the mph legal limit. Unlike shaving or end loading a bat the effects of rolling are not easily detectable. Had the knob removed/ replaced or changed in any way or had anything removed or added to the inside or outside of the bat other than the legal way to tape the bat the specified and appropriate place as described in the NSA Rule Book”. Association can suspend you if a bat is found to be altered but bat rolling is virtually impossible to detect, without a shadow of doubt. I have personally known of bats that were sent to large bat companies for warranty which were rolled and not one was denied a replacement.

Bat rolling is a very hot topic among softball associations, players, and bat companies. Examples of altering a bat are, but not limited to the following: Painting a bat, replacing the handle or shaving the handle or barrel or the taper changed in any way. Bat companies are to blame, for the most part, because there is an unspoken competition as to whose bat can change in batted ball speed the most after being broken in. Examples’. The machine can tell if the bat is over the 98mph limit but it will not tell you by how much. ASA has made such a machine but it is archaic at best. Removing or replacing the plug or changed in any way other than factory repairs. A bat would need to be cut long ways and scientifically examined to find a pattern of resin break down consistent with rolling; no association has that type of time or money. Bats that are broken in by batting practice can be deemed illegal because they are over that limit and with that the owner is at risk being labeled a “cheater”. Associations are trying to level the playing field as best as possible with their resources. They specifically mention bat rolling but as I stated earlier there is no way to detect rolling. If it was increasing distance like shaving does I can see the argument of cheating but we are talking about apples and oranges. I will now go into what each association’s rules are in regards to rolling.

“Altered Bats – Excessive Pressure

Included in the USSSA view of what is an altered or doctored bat are any bats that are subjected to pressure

in any manner that exceeds that of striking the bat against an approved ball traveling at game like speeds. Such as by sandpapering or applying a solvent to the surface such as fingernail polish remover or by any other means. It would be hard for a prosecutor to prove that a rolled bat is any hotter than a bat broken in by hitting baseballs or softballs repeatedly. District Court for Western Oklahoma has awarded ASA $100,000 in damages and attorney’s fees totaling approximately $12,000 against the first two defendants in the Association’s ongoing attempts to rid the game of softball of illegal equipment including painting and other techniques used to alter bats”.

It is clear that all associations believe that altering a bat not allowed as spelled out by their rules but let’s clear the air; there is not any law that states a rolled bat is illegal. There are those who maintain that rolling of one’s bat is perfectly legal. With all that being said bat rolling is no different than a well broken in bat, so why spend days, weeks, or even months breaking in your bat when you can get it rolled? With such a drastic difference between new and broken in bats, you need to get your bat rolled or spend days breaking it in to level the playing field. Easton has made reveal composite and started stamping there end caps where the cap meets the bat. Only one bat company has made huge commitments to keeping altered bats off the field of play. Again the same type of verbiage.

“An altered bat is considered altered when the physical structure of the legal bat has been changed in any way, or when an illegal or non approved bat has been made up in such a way as to appear to be a legal bat. This would be the bat everyone seeks to obtain and thus sales go up. Therefore, according to our rules, rolling of one’s bat is illegal and would make that bat an altered bat according to Rule 1 Altered Bat: When the physical structure of a legal softball bat has been changed”. One item that appears to keep coming up is the rolling of bats for quicker break in of the fibers

On December 16th, Chris was involved in a dispute with his wife. On March 1st, a fishing boat was reported missing off the coast of Florida. In fact, he was the first person to run up and down Mount Kilimanjaro. Benoit was responsible for drugging his wife and son and consequently killing them over the course of three days. Autopsy reports revealed that Benoit’s brain was in terrible condition.

Ed, a Hall of Fame player in the MLB, was killed after being swept over Niagara Falls. A wide consensus believe that this goal led to his death. Unfortunately, Fleming and a co-worker were electrocuted when a 12,000 volt transmission line struck them.

González was a professional baseball player who played for the Milwaukee Brewers at the time of his death. Old age simply does not apply to this list of athletes who saw their lives cut short in some of the most bizarre and peculiar ways possible.col

7 – Chris Benoit (May 21st, 1967 – June 24th, 2007)

5 – Geremi González (January 8th, 1975 – May 25th, 2008)

Andrés Escobar was a professional Colombian soccer player who was shot and killed in Colombia. Watt died from exposure to snow while training on Mount Erica.

8 – Don Fleming (June 11th, 1937 – June 4th, 1963)

3 – Ed Delahanty (October 30th, 1867 – July 2nd, 1903)

6 – Andrés Escobar (March 13th, 1967 – July 2nd, 1994)

Danny Frisella was a baseball player who played for five teams over the course of his career. The boat was supposed to have returned later that night, but never did. Henry died the next day from the trauma sustained during the dispute.

10 – Geoff Watt (1969)

The Sad Story of Pro Athletes and Their Untimely Deaths

Believe it or not, the athletes that play the sports we watch and love on a daily basis are mere mortals, just like us. He was a relief pitcher who was quite valuable to the teams that he played for, as he had a winning career record and an ERA around 3.00. González died immediately.

Geoff was a distance runner from Victoria. Their bodies were never found.

Henry was a professional American football player who played five seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals. However, he played for five teams over the course of his career. There really is not an interesting story to the death of Geremi.

Chris Benoit was a professional wrestler from Canada whose life ended in an absolutely horrifying murder-suicide case. Unfortunately, all the running in the cold would be the death of him. He then started walking, making his way to the International Bridge, where he fell or jumped off.

2 – Mario Danelo (July 3rd, 1985 – January 6th, 2007)

Mario Danelo was an American collegiate level placekicker that played football for the USC Trojans. While many athletes are able to happily retire and live their lives to the fullest, not all are able to even retire. Drunk, Ed was kicked off the train he was riding for threatening passengers with a razor. Unfortunately, Danny’s life was cut short when he was involved in a dune buggy accident on New Year’s Day.

4 – Chris Henry (May 17th, 1983 – December 17th, 2009)

9 – Danny Frisella (March 4th, 1946 – January 1st, 1977). On January 6th, after partying, Mario went for a walk and never returned. His team’s loss caused immense losses to the Colombian drug lords, who bet heavily on the Colombian team to win.

Don Fleming was a professional American football player who played for the Cleveland Browns. All that needs to be known is that he overcame the 1 in 280,000 odds of being struck by lightning. Upon murdering his wife and son, Benoit committed suicide in his house with a weight machine. In the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Escobar scored on his own goal in a game versus the United States that ultimately led his team’s loss. While never receiving international acclaim, Watt was an astounding runner. The murder itself is not bizarre, but rather the reason for which he was killed. Apparently, Henry fell off the back of a moving pickup truck that was being driven by his wife. Smith and Cooper were accompanied by two other friends. The boat was found the next day, capsized, with one of the friends hanging onto it. Danelo, drunk at the time, had accidentally fallen off a 120-foot high cliff to his death in San Pedro.

1 – Corey Smith (October 2nd, 1979 – March 2009)

& Marquis Cooper (March 11th, 1982 – March 2009)

Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper, professional American football players, were never actually able to be confirmed dead. The men were searched for, but after a month, they were presumed dead. During the off-season, Fleming worked construction to stay in shape and gain experience, as he was a building construction major in college

Demichelis was not immediately available for comment.

Newcastle and England winger Andros Townsend was fined £18,000 ($26,000) and banned for four months in 2013 — a punishment which prevented him from playing at the European Under-21 Championship.. Demichelis is not the first professional football player to have been charged by the FA over betting offenses.

“It is alleged the player committed 12 breaches of FA Rule E8 concerning football matches between 22 January 2016 and 28 January 2016. He has until 5pm on 5 April 2016 to respond to the charge,” said an FA statement:

There is no suggestion that Demichelis was involved in match fixing nor that he bet on games in which he was involved.

The misconduct charge is the latest blow for Demichelis, whose performances and that of his fellow teammates have dipped in recent weeks, with City falling out of contention in the Premier League title race after losing a number of crucial fixtures over the past couple of months.

Demichelis, 35, is accused of having broken worldwide rules which came into existence on August 1 2014 to prevent players from betting on any football activity whether inside or outside of their domestic league.

Rule E8 states: “A Participant shall not bet, either directly or indirectly, or instruct, permit, cause or enable any person to bet on – (i) the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition; or (ii) any other matter concerning or related to football anywhere in the world, including, for example and without limitation, the transfer of players, employment of managers, team selection or disciplinary matters.”

Dan Gosling, the Bournemouth midfielder, was fined £30,000 ($43,000) after breaching the rules in March 2014 while at former club Newcastle.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who announced he will leave the club at the end of the season last month, has presided over defeats to rivals Tottenham, Leicester and Manchester United with his team 15 points off the pace and now fighting to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

City did beat Liverpool to win the League Cup final and face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarterfinals next week.
